PHASE 1

Our Exhibits

Look Inward - See Outward

Phase One Overview
“Mother Earth & Me” opens its story within the walls of the North School, where the echoes of history meet the possibilities of tomorrow. Here, visitors step into Kansas’ defining struggles for freedom and discover how those lessons of courage and justice still speak to us today.

Through immersive storytelling — from an immersive simulated cabin with an historical narrative and vintage radios to interactive media — Phase One connects the fight for liberty with the call to protect our planet. It invites every visitor to reflect, engage, and carry forward a shared responsibility to both history and the Earth itself.

Phase 1 – Heritage First: Building on Our Roots

"Before we look outward to the planet, we honor the ground beneath our feet."

Our journey begins with the historic North School in Paola, Kansas. Located just seven miles from Osawatomie — the site of John Brown’s stand at the Battle of Osawatomie — this building will be the launchpad for Mother Earth & Me.

Phase 1 will focus on regional history and heritage, establishing the EcoCampus as a cultural and educational hub while laying the foundation for future immersive ecological exhibits. By securing a listing on the National Historical Registry, we open the door to heritage preservation grants and community investment.

Exhibit Highlights – Phase 1

  • Adair Cabin Experience (Half-Scale Reproduction + VR)
Step inside a recreation of the Adair Cabin, where John Brown once defended Osawatomie. A VR presentation transports visitors back to 1856, immersing them in the tension and choices of that historic battle.

  • Battle Diorama & Lookout Point
A detailed diorama traces the path of pro-slavery forces and John Brown’s lookout. Visitors can follow troop movements through lighting effects or augmented overlays.

  • Story on the Big Screen
“Ken Burns–style” films tell the human stories of Kansas during Bleeding Kansas and the Civil War. Archival voices, maps, and music bring history alive.

  • Art & Reflection Gallery
Visitors encounter powerful works such as The Last Moments of John Brown by Thomas Hovenden (1882–84) and John Steuart Curry’s Tragic Prelude. These iconic paintings frame Kansas’ role in America’s struggle for freedom.

  • Evolutions in Sound – Don Brady’s Vintage Radio Collection
A unique exhibit of vintage radios explores how communication shaped history, from Civil War dispatches to World War II broadcasts to the Civil Rights era. Oversized radio tubes, soundwave displays, and interactive listening kiosks make this history hands-on.

  • Buzztopia Honeybee Garden - Step into a vibrant, pollinator-friendly garden alive with the hum of honeybees. Buzztopia is both a sanctuary and a classroom—showcasing the critical role bees play in our ecosystems. Visitors explore live observation hives, interactive pollination displays, and hands-on learning stations that connect bee health to human well-being. Designed to inspire stewardship, the exhibit emphasizes sustainability, biodiversity, and the simple actions each of us can take to protect our planet’s pollinators.

Why Start with History?

We believe the story of Kansas is the story of America. By beginning with regional history, we:

  • Honor our roots and establish community trust.

  • Create immediate educational value for schools and local families.

  • Unlock new funding pathways through preservation and heritage grants.

  • Provide an authentic foundation for the immersive ecological exhibits that follow.

Our Roadmap

  • Phase 1: Heritage & Foundation
Historic Registry application, John Brown and Civil War exhibits, “Evolutions in Sound.”

  • Phase 2: Expansion into Regional & Ecological Storytelling
Linking history with environmental themes; new immersive installations.

  • Phase 3: Full EcoCampus Experience
The complete Mother Earth & Me immersive journey into sustainability, ecology, and global stewardship.

Look Inward. See Outward.

Encouraging introspection and fostering a connection with Mother Earth, we empower individuals to take sustainable actions through immersive experiences and transformative exhibits with emotionally resonant storytelling.

Our mission extends to inspiring STEAM learning among diverse populations in underserved communities.

Problem:

Global environmental challenges persist as disconnected and uninspiring awareness campaigns struggle to engage audiences effectively. Many individuals remain apathetic or overwhelmed by the urgency of environmental issues, hindering meaningful change. Traditional approaches fail to create a lasting impact, necessitating a new paradigm for health education and environmental/nature conservation engagement.

The imminent threats of dwindling natural resources, global warming, overpopulation, disruptions in the food chain, species teetering on the brink of extinction, and water shortages collectively signal a looming crisis. Addressing this requires a dynamic, comprehensive, and ever-evolving approach to combat the prevailing apathy.

Solution: Look Inward - See Outward!

"Mother Earth & Me" addresses this problem through a groundbreaking immersive experience. We seamlessly blend cutting-edge laser projection technology, captivating art, a powerful music score, and informative content to immerse participants in an emotionally resonant journey of a deep connection between people and the environment.

By looking at the well-being of both the Earth and ourselves, people will not only gain a deeper understanding of the natural world but also discover their own power to make a positive impact on Mother Earth. We will inspire tangible and lasting changes in behavior for a solution transcending traditional methods, offering a unique and transformative approach to environmental education.
